A FURTHER 48,682 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK have been reported on Thursday, Public Health England said.

The publication of the latest deaths data has been delayed due to a “processing issue”, it added.

The local breakdown of new cases was also delayed. 

The number of Covid-19 patients in hospital in England stood at a record 32,925 as of 8am on Thursday January 14, NHS England said.

The figure is up 17 per cent on a week ago, and up 86 per cent since Christmas Day.

In the North-East and Yorkshire, there were 3,455 people in hospital, up 18 per cent in a week. 

A further 884 deaths were reported by hospitals in England between 4pm on Tuesday and 4pm on Wednesday, according to data released by NHS England. 

Patients were aged between 27 and 101.

In the North-East and North Yorkshire there were a further 32 deaths.

County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust reported a further seven deaths, while there were nine reported by South Tyneside and Sunderland.

There were also four deaths at North Tees and Hartlepool hospitals, five at South Tees NHS Foundation Trust, two at Northumbria Healthcare and two in Newcastle. 

In North Yorkshire, there was one reported death at Harrogate and District and two in York.
