A CATHEDRAL is to reduce opening hours and public services due to coronavirus.

Durham Cathedral remains open for private prayer and quiet reflection, but has started to reduce its opening hours and in-person services.

The measures came into affect yesterday, Wednesday, January 13.

Durham Cathedral will be open daily 11am-2pm for private prayer and quiet reflection.

The only service that will be open to the public in-person will be the 12.30pm Holy Communion which takes place Monday to Saturday.

The rest of the cathedral’s services will be closed to the public but will continue to be live-streamed to the cathedral’s Facebook page.

The online service schedule is as follows: From Monday to Saturday live streams will start with the 8.30am Morning Prayer and continues with the 5.15pm Evening Prayer, on Monday, or Choral Evensong Tuesday to Saturday.

Sundays live streams will include the 8.30am Morning Prayer, 9.30am Sung Eucharist and the 3.30pm Choral Evensong.
