A VILLAGE has celebrated the New Year by decorating the streets with bunting.
The village of Cornsay Colliery, in County Durham, has been transformed with bunting to welcome in 2021.
Volunteers made bunting over the last few months in preparation for the New Year.
The village was covered top to bottom with bunting of all shapes and sizes, many of them home made, and some hand sown.
A big Happy New Year banner sign is flying proudly outside the home of organiser Lynn Hughes.
Mrs Hughes, a resident and member of the Residents Association said: “Its about symbolising hope and new beginnings, something we all need and are looking forward to in 2021.
“Its nice to have something chirpy, everything is so doom and gloom these days but there is hope with the vaccine.
“This whole event of decorating the villages has really brought the village together in times of hardship.
“We’ve been working hard over the last few months to make sure nearly all 80 houses have something on display.”
