BBC News viewers have taken to social media to air their confusion after a map appeared to show UK cities in the wrong place.

Eagled-eyed viewers were quick to highlight the map, which initially appeared to show Newcastle in Cumbria, and Manchester in North Wales.

On social media, dozens of people asked the news channel why the map was showing a list of cities in seemingly the wrong place.

But quick to point out that the map was not in fact inaccurate, one user explained that the the Covid symbol had been used at the start of each place name instead of actual location.

They said: "You do realise that the icon on the side is a Covid symbol. Not a pin on the location of the city."
