ALTHOUGH, the snow may have stopped emergency services are urging people to take extra care on roads, after a car's roof had to be cut off to rescue the driver, due to the car crashing into a tree.
Yesterday morning crews from High Handenhold attended a road traffic collision involving a car.
The Fire Brigade crews used holmatro cutting equipment to remove the full roof of the car and release the driver who was then taken to the RVI hospital with minor injuries.
County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Please take extra care on the roads when driving in wintery conditions folks lights on, reduce speed and increase your stopping distance. Stay safe."
Durham Police said that sub-zero temperatures had made driving conditions on the A1 and A19 hazardous.
On a Weardale weather watch Facebook post, Merv Stapleton, said: "Don’t try driving across the dam at Burnhope Reservoir. Two cars in 10 minutes have had to be pushed off it after getting stuck in the snow.
"A few minutes after taking this photo a third got stuck!"
The following pictures were taken by our reporter Gavin Engelbrecht, while he was on a walk this morning between Hobson and Dipton, on the old railway path which still has deep snow.
The met office said both England and Northumberland had recorded their lowest overnight temperature of the 2020-2021 winter so far.
This morning a temperature of -11.1 was recorded in the North East at Redesdale Camp.
The A689 from Skelgillside Workshops to B6278 is closed due to snow in both directions.
