COVID has wreaked havoc across society, including in schools. Despite constantly changing rules and mounting pressures, some North-East schools have glowing inspection reports.

Ofsted inspectors are constantly visiting schools across the region, with results announced on a rolling schedule throughout the year.

Teachers are under mounting pressure to sites are Covid-safe for vulnerable pupils and children of keyworkers, who can still go into school, while also delivering classed remotely.

Parents have been told they can report schools to Ofsted if the remote learning they are being offered is not good enough.

But even with one-way systems, hand sanitiser, PPE and staggered start, break and lunchtimes, some schools have top marks for their pupils.

Two - Front Street Community Primary School, in Newcastle, and Front Street Community Primary School, in Ferryhill - have the highest accolade with the most recent inspections being outstanding.

However, Ofsted’s visits to schools during the autumn term are not inspections but rather monitoring visits.

Inspectors note the work schools are doing to ensure it is safe and what is being done to help children catch up after months of closure during the start of the pandemic, as well as the likes of attendance.

In letters from Ofsted to schools, it states: "Thank you again for contributing to this important national work. The views and experiences you have shared will help to inform future policy."
