CLEVELAND police officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dash cam video or still footage to assist with an investigation into an attempted robbery on a lone woman in Hartlepool.

The incident occurred at around 8.20am on Sunday (January 3), whereby a woman in her fifties was walking along Southburn Terrace on her own.

When she reached the junction with South Parade and Nottingham Walk, a man attacked her from behind in an attempt to steal her handbag.

The suspect then made off empty handed along Nottingham Walk and then Stockton Road.

Police officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have any CCTV or dash cam footage of the incident which could assist with the investigation to contact Cleveland Police on 101, quoting incident number 001249.
