SNOW is causing traffic problems across the region this morning - with police reporting accidents, road closures and urging motorists to take extra care.

The A169 from Pickering to Whitby is closed to all vehicles, in both directions from the A171 Guisborough Road to Woodlands Park.

North Yorkshire Police are advising drivers to avoid the area and only travel if absolutely essential due to poor road conditions.

Snow is falling in most of North Yorkshire this morning. Particularly the A61 road between Ripon and Harrogate is treacherous. Please drive carefully and allow extra time for your journey. 

There has also been an accident on the A168 between Whaites Lane and A1(M) J49 at Thirsk / Dishforth. Snow in the area is also not helping traffic, said the AA.

Traffic is also said to be slow due to snow on the motorway between J42 A63, Selby Fork, and J45 A659 Wattlesyke, Boston Spa, and around York.

And Sutton Bank, below, is said to be treacherous.

In County Durham, traffic is moving slowly on the A1(M) between J61 with the A688 Tursdale Road, at Bowburn, and J62 with the A690, at Carrville.

There has been two vehicle crash near Dalton-le-Dale, closing both lanes of the A19 between A182 (Murton Interchange) and B1404 Seaton Lane (Seaton Interchange).

Cleveland Police said it has also taken reports of numerous snow related accidents.

Traffic is said to be particularly slow due to snow on A19, between A67 (Crathorne Junction) and A19 (Cleveland Tontine).
