PLANS have been under consideration in Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland and Stockton, which include a proposed new micro-pub, houses, a hotel, ice cream parlour and a new £90m quay on the River Tees.

Plans to convert a previously derelict chapel and church hall at St Cuthbert’s Church, off Newport Road, Middlesbrough, into a micro-pub called ‘Chapel at Whitehouse Street’ recently went before Middlesbrough Council’s planning committee.

The application was turned down, but the would-be landlord Russell Towers said he hoped to bring it back again with a few new amendments in a bid to reverse the decision.

An old farmhouse-turned care home, which closed earlier this year, has been given permission to be converted into three houses, alongside two five-bedroom detached properties within the grounds.

A cliff top restaurant in Saltburn has been refused permission over fears views of Teesside’s coastline would be lost. 

The restaurant, being proposed by developers Oleus Leisure, would have been built into the cliff-face off Marine Parade, but the plans were turned down by councillors.

Fresh plans have been lodged to build a 66-bed hotel between Ingleby Barwick and Thornaby after the original plans for land at Hollybush Farm, off Thornaby Road, were rejected in 2018.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen unveiled plans for a new £90m heavy lift quay on the south bank of the River Tees with an application being submitted to Redcar and Cleveland Council.

The project, which will initially create 100 jobs, could get underway in August next year, subject to relevant permissions.

German discount chain Aldi plans to demolish its supermarket in Darlington Lane, Norton, and replace it with a more modern store, which will be ready to open in September 2021.

Permission was granted for the new store last year by Stockton Council and the company has now revealed more of the planned timetable with the existing store due to close at the end of the year.

A smart bistro-style restaurant and ice-cream parlour could be coming to Marske-on-Sea.

Plans have been lodged to turn the empty former Darby’s DIY shop into a new eaterie with change of use permission being sought from Redcar and Cleveland Council.
