A MAN who is facing allegations he murdered a teacher and attempted to murder a 15-year-old boy has said he plans to deny the charges, a court was told.

Paul Robson, 49, who is from Stanley Street, Wallsend, North Tyneside, appeared briefly before South East Northumberland Magistrates’ Court, on Monday morning where he was remanded in custody.

He is charged with murdering Caroline Kayll, 47, and attempting to murder a 15-year-old, who cannot be identified for legal reasons as he is a juvenile, following an order made by the court.

Robson’s solicitor Kash Khan told the court: “He is going to deny these matters.

“He is denying any specific intent and any unlawful actions.”

Robson was charged with the offences on Sunday, a week after Ms Kayll was attacked at an address in Linton, near Ashington, Northumberland.

She died from her injuries days later in hospital.

Northumbria Police said the 15-year-old boy, who was not related to her or Robson, was discharged after receiving hospital treatment.

Ms Kayll worked as a teacher at Atkinson House School which caters for children with social, emotional and mental health issues.

Robson, who wore a grey T-shirt under a black quilted jacket, will next appear before Newcastle Crown Court on Wednesday.
