WORK is expected to begin in early 2021 on a new car park at Yarm School that will assist traffic flow on The Spital and provide a place for parents to pick-up and drop-off away from The Spital.

The landscaped car park, which will give direct access to the Nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep schools, is being developed on land adjacent to the Pre-Prep School and will be accessed by three-way traffic lights on The Spital.

The tender to carry out the work was won by local firm Cleveland Land Services which previously delivered the landscaped car park on the Senior School site.

The new area will accommodate 136 cars and three coaches and is expected to take around eight months to complete.

Alan Hodgson, Estates Manager at Yarm School, said: “This has been in the planning phase for a long time and we are pleased that work can now commence.

“The new car park will enable drop off and pick up of pupils away from The Spital, where the flow of traffic will be eased at the start and end of the school day.

“It’s very pleasing that the project will also support local jobs and inject money into the region’s economy.

"Having worked previously with Cleveland Land Services I am confident they will do an excellent job and I believe that the benefits will be seen by our parents, pupils and the wider town.”

Yarm School is a co-educational day school.

It was established in 1978 to provide high quality education for pupils aged 11 to 18.

It has its own Preparatory School for boys and girls aged seven to 10, a Pre-Prep for boys and girls and a Nursery.
