A CANNABIS farm estimated to be worth almost half a million pounds has been seized in Hartlepool.

The discovery of the plants came after members of the local community reported concerns regarding drugs activity at the property on Raby Road, which was previously a takeaway shop.

Officers attended the property yesterday and found 500 plants, estimated to be worth up to £414,000.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and he remains in police custody.

Neighbourhood Inspector Martin Skirving-Chehab said: “Today’s discovery of 500 cannabis plants shows the local community that we do act upon their information and we are tackling drugs activity in the town.

"This haul of drugs will no longer make it onto the town’s streets and one male is currently in police custody.”

Anyone who may have information regarding drugs activity is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
