A MAN has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after being knocked of his bike at Consett.
A Durham Police spokesperson said: "Police attended the scene of a collision in Consett at around 12pm on Thursday.
"The incident took place on the A692 between the Delves Lane roundabout and the Templetown roundabout.
"A silver Skoda is believed to have collided with a bike.
"The ambulance service and Great North Air Ambulance attended the scene, and a man with severe injuries was flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
The road was closed while officers dealt with the scene, and has since been reopened.
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 11.51am on Thursday to a male injured on Rotary Way in Consett. It is was understood he was knocked off his bike.
"We dispatched a two double-crewed ambulances and were supported at the scene by the Great North Air Ambulance.
"One male patient was flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle with severe injuries."
