PART of a major route through Middlesbrough is to close at the weekend for emergency repair work.
The eastbound carriageway of the A66 at Newport Interchange will be closed from 8pm tomorrow evening (Friday, October 30).
The work to a 130m section of the carriageway follows emergency pothole repairs undertaken in August and September, and is expected to be completed overnight.
Traffic will be diverted off at the eastbound exit slip road, rejoining the A66 on at the eastbound entry slip.
A Middlesbrough Council spokesman said: "Repairs were undertaken on this section of the A66 in the summer, but unfortunately the condition of the carriageway has deteriorated again and now requires a more substantial repair.
"This work is being carried out off-peak to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum.
"We're grateful to motorists for their patience and understanding and apologise for any inconvenience caused."
