A DRUG driver who skidded and crashed into a "skid risk" sign in front of a police car has been banned.

Harry Franklin Waudby, 20, lost control of his SEAT Ibiza while driving near Wetherby, in North Yorkshire.

Waudby, of Wetherby, skidded, crashing into a "skid risk" sign in Tockwith.

A passing North Yorkshire Police Roads Policing Group patrol saw him veer off the road and stopped to help.

Waudby was given a drug test and tested positive for cannabis.

Nobody was seriously hurt during the incident, which happened in June.

He was charged with drug driving, which he pleaded guilty to when he appeared at Harrogate Magistrates' Court.

He was given a 12-month driving ban and fined £233 with £85 costs.

Speaking after the sentencing, Traffic Constable Michael Rowan said: "As traffic officers we frequently deal with drug drivers and it's an incredibly selfish and dangerous offence.

"Anyone who does it is a hazard to themselves as well as innocent road users, and we endeavour to catch as many as possible. There is no place for drunk or drugged drivers in North Yorkshire."
