A ROAD in North Yorkshire is closed after a bridge was severely damaged by a vehicle.

North Yorkshire County Council said it had closed Cow Wath Bridge, near Goathland, on the North York Moors.

The bridge on Cow Wath Bank crosses the North Yorkshire Moors Railway between Goathland and Whitby.

Stone from the bridge was knocked onto the tracks following a collision.

North Yorkshire County Council said it would close the road until repairs are complete.
