A FURTHER 965 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the North-East and North Yorkshire in the last 24-hours.

This brings the total number of cases recorded in the region to 55, 020.

There have been a total of 2,894 reported Covid deaths in the North-East since the start of the pandemic and 4,949 in the Yorkshire and Humber, according to the Government’s figures.

The Government said, as of 9am on Sunday, there had been a further 16,982 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK. It brings the total number of cases in the UK to 722,409.

The Government also said a further 67 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19, as of Sunday. This brings the UK total to 43,646.

Here is a breakdown of the latest confirmed cases in the region:

County Durham: 8,860 was 8,724, an increase of 136.

Darlington: 1,425 was 1,412, an increase of 13

Gateshead: 3,557 was 3,527, an increase of 30.

Hartlepool: 1,680 was 1,664, an increase of 16.

Middlesbrough: 2,542 was 2,492, an increase of 50.

Newcastle: 7,009 was 6,928, an increase of 81.

North Tyneside: 2,974 was 2,953, an increase of 21.

North Yorkshire: 5,853 was 5,724 an increase of 129.

Northumberland: 4,183 was 4,153 was 4,067, an increase of 30.

Redcar and Cleveland: 1,735 was 1,694, an increase of 41.

South Tyneside: 2,942 was 2,908, an increase of 34.

Stockton: 3,002 was 2,970, an increase of 182.

Sunderland: 5,572 was 5,501, an increase of 71 and York: 2,686 was 2,555, an increase of 131.
