A SUSPECTED drug dealer climbed on to the roof of a building to try and escape officers carrying out a drugs raid.

Stockton neighbourhood team carried out a drugs warrant at an address on Durham Road, Stockton, on Friday afternoon.

During the raid, a man was seen by officers climbing out of the loft skylight and onto the roof of the property.

He then jumped onto a flat roof and onto a wooden shed in a neighbouring garden, before being detained by officers.

A man, aged 35, was arrested on suspicion of drugs offences, money laundering and criminal damage.

A woman, aged 32 was also arrested at the property on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs.

Both have been released under investigation, pending further enquiries.

Police, along with partner agencies including Cleveland Fire Brigade and Stockton Borough Council, attended and ensured that the roof was safe.

Sergeant Gary Cookland, from Stockton neighbourhood team, said: “We have acted on community concerns in relation to drugs activity and have arrested two people as a result of this.

"We will not tolerate people causing misery for others amongst our communities.
