A secondary school has closed to a second of its year groups following a confirmed case of coronavirus.
Longfield Academy, in Darlington, has advised Year 9 pupils to stay at home and self-isolate until Monday, October 5.
This follows a positive test result to a pupil in Year 8, earlier this month, with the whole year group being sent home to isolate until Monday, September 28.
Headteacher Nick Lindsay said: “We have carried out a full risk assessment and taken advice from Public Health England regarding the course of action and the precautions we need to take.
“On this basis, we have been advised that Year 9 pupils are required to stay at home and self-isolate until Monday, October 5; when they will be expected to return to school.”
Years 7, 10 and 11 will continue to attend the school as usual, with Year 8 returning on Monday, September 28, as planned.
Parents were informed of the decision this morning, with Year 9 pupils being allowed home as soon as safe arrangements could be made with families.
