A ROAD has been closed after a HGV crashed into the front of a house in Shildon.

Spout Lane is currently cordoned off while emergency services attend the scene.

The lorry will remain where it is until a structural engineer has assessed the damage.

The Northern Echo:

A neighbour said: "I was working and heard a loud bang and the house shook a bit.

"I didn't realise what had happened till I heard all of the sirens and realised they'd stopped here.

"I came outside and saw the wagon had crashed into the house. I couldn't believe it."

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "Police were called at 2.50pm today after a lorry collided with a house on Sterling Way, in Shildon.

"Paramedics and the fire service were also called to the scene, but thankfully nobody is thought to have suffered any injuries.

"A structural engineer is due to attend the scene to assess the damage to the building.

"People are asked to avoid the area if possible."
