THE official Government guidance on new coronavirus rules for the North-East has been published - and it details exactly what businesses are affected. 

From today, lockdown-style restrictions will apply in County Durham, Newcastle, Sunderland, Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Northumberland.

It restricts two households from mixing, unless in a support bubble, and forces a number of businesses to close their doors early.

The official guidance, which is titled Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (North East of England) Regulations 2020, was published today.

It details what exactly has been enshrined in law, with the local authority and police force able to take enforcement action on people and business flouting rules.

It also reveals which businesses must close their doors from 10pm and not reopen until 5am the following morning.

Restaurants and food and drink venues are restricted to table service only, but can provide takeaway services beyond the 10pm curfew.

Here's the official list:

  • Nightclubs
  • Dance halls, discotheques, and any other venue which opens at night, has a dance floor, provides music, whether live or recorded, for dancing
  • Sexual entertainment venues and hostess bars
  • Restaurants, including restaurants and dining rooms in hotels or members’ clubs
  • Businesses offering food or drink for consumption off the premises
  • Cafes, including workplace canteens, but not including cafes or canteens at a hospital, care home or school, canteens at a prison
  • Workplace canteens may remain open where there is no practical alternative for staff at that workplace to obtain food
  • Bars, including bars in hotels or members’ clubs
  • Public houses
  • Social clubs
  • Casinos
  • Bowling alleys
  • Cinemas
  • Theatres
  • Amusement arcades or other indoor leisure centres or facilities
  • Funfairs (indoors or outdoors), theme parks and adventure parks and activities
  • Bingo halls
  • Concert halls
