A MAN reportedly tried to snatch a young boy from a Hartlepool street and police are appealing for the public's help in finding him.

Officers are dealing with a report of a man in a car approaching two 11-year-old boys who were walking from Bruntoft Avenue to Lamberd Road at around 8pm on Sunday, September 13.

It is alleged that around 8.15pm a man got out of a car and tried to grab one of the boys by the hand.

Police want to speak to the driver/occupants of a silver car seen in the area of Bruntoft Avenue, Hartlepool, at around 8pm on Sunday, September 13.

This map shows the streets police are focussing on. The silver car is believed to have stopped at one of the two blue-coloured points on the map, either on Bruntoft Avenue or Lamberd Road.

Detectives believe the car may be a silver VW Golf with tinted windows and a loud exhaust.

The man reported to have got out of the car is described as white, aged in his 30s, tall, fat build and wearing red, shiny, shorts.

He is also described as having a tattoo on his left leg, thought to be red and green.

After being approached, the boys ran onto King Oswy Drive and it is thought the car continued on Bruntoft Avenue.
