A COUNTY Durham pub has undergone a major transformation - and has added a brand new roof terrace for good measure.

The Wicket Gate, in Chester-le-Street, reopened to customers earlier this week after a major refurbishment worth £1.65m.

The pub, which was opened by Wetherspoon in August 2009, has been converted from a Lloyds pub and is now classed as a music-free venue.

Inside, it has been completely redecorated with a new bar, larger kitchen, refurbished furniture and new fixed seating.

New bi-fold windows have also been installed to the front of the pub.

On the first floor, a brand new ladies and gentlemens customer toilets have been built and a new roof terrace has been added.

The roof terrace has a canopy, new loose fixed seating, for outdoor dining and drinking, as well as new planting throughout.

Pub manager Mike Graveson said: “Wetherspoon has spent £1.65million on the pub, providing further huge investment into the town.

“Myself and my team are looking forward to welcoming customers back into The Wicket Gate and we are confident that they will be impressed by the refurbishment of the building and new-look roof terrace.”
