A HARTLEPOOL primary school has reassured parents after a pupil tested positive for coronavirus

St Aidan's Primary school head teacher Lynn Chambers called the first week of "delightful" but revealed the school had one positive case of coronavirus.

Miss Chambers reassured parents and carers that the school adheres to the strictest PPE measures and no one came into contact with the infected child.

She said: "We are at the end of the first week back at school and the children have been delightful - happy to be back, keen to learn and enjoying their time.

"We do however have a confirmed case of coronavirus in school. The individual was sent home upon showing symptoms and we immediately contacted Public Health England who carried out a full investigation with us.

"Public Health England advised that as no child had been in close contact with the individual there was no need for any child to stay at home or I wish to reassure you all, that we continue to adhere to the strictest protective measures in school in line with Government guidance and Public Health England advice.

"Of course I will update you with any developments going forwards."

The head also thanked families for their continued support.
