STARTLED shoppers witnessed a teatime police swoop on suspected drug dealers at Catterick Garrison.

Uniform and plain clothed police officers from North Yorkshire Police converged on a sliver Astra on the car park at Prince’s Gate shopping centre at Catterick Garrison last Friday evening.

Following a search of the vehicle containing three men it is understood a quantity of suspected Class A and B drugs along with an amount of cash was recovered. Three men in their 20s all from the Richmondshire area were arrested and later released under investigation whilst enquiries continue. Forensic tests will be carried out on the substances.

The arrests were part of Operation Expedite, which focuses on those suspected of involvement in drug dealing, both locally and across the county. The teams work proactively to prevent and detect drug dealing and associated offences. They also work to safeguard and protect those who are vulnerable and targeted by organised drug dealing networks.

Inspector Mark Gee, of Richmond Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This is a warning to those involved in the supply and use of illegal drugs in the Richmondshire area.

“This proactive work and the use of plain clothes officers will continue. We need to protect all in our community, including those being targeted by organised drug dealers as they heap misery on a large number of people and put lives at risk.”

Anyone with information on drug dealing in their area is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101. To remain anonymous, pass information to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.
