A NORTH-EAST bus service between Teesside and Newcastle will be replaced with coaches - and they will launch this weekend.

Go North East's X9 and X10 routes, which run between Middlesbrough and Newcastle via the A19, will be run using coaches from Saturday.

Serving Stockton, Norton, Billingham, Peterlee, Dalton Park, Heworth and Gateshead, the routes will offer USB charging and air-conditioning.

The coaches will run on the routes until autumn, by which time "bigger and better" coaches will have arrived.

The coaches are set to come with a double-door, extra wide, front entrance for disabled access.

From Saturday, the X9 and X10 will finish at the bus stop opposite St Andrew’s Church, near The Gate, rather than Eldon Square Bus Station.

Go North East’s managing director, Martijn Gilbert, said: “We’re delighted to be bringing this upgrade to our express route between Middlesbrough and Newcastle.

“These coaches will provide our customers with an extra comfort whilst they run fast and direct via the A19 and will play an important part in delivering congestion busting low carbon travel to help support the economic recovery of the region.”
