A NORTH-EAST restaurant has closed after two of its staff members reported having symptoms of Covid-19.

Armando's Restaurant on Redcar High Street apologised for any inconvenience caused to customers in a statement last night.

On its social media page, restaurant bosses said all future bookings had now been cancelled following the suspected case.

It said: "Due to a staff experiencing COVID symptoms. Under these circumstances we have made a decision to close Armando's until further notice.

"We hope that everyone stays safe and well, as our health is the top priority for our staff as well as customer!

"All bookings therefore are cancelled now , we are extremely sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

"We appreciate your loyalty and support throughout these difficult times. We will keep you all updated and hopefully we shall see you all soon as soon as it is safe to do so. We love you all."

The restaurant gets 4.5 out of 5 on TripAdvisor based on the reviews from more than 300 people.

It comes as Public Health England figures confirm a total of 726 people in the Redcar and Cleveland Borough area tested positive since the outbreak began.

A spokesperson from Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council said: “Armando’s has taken the quick and responsible decision to close their premises temporarily after suspecting two members of their staff have been infected with Covid-19.

“As a Council, we are working with the business, who have been fully co-operative, while we await the outcome of the tests.

“We’d like to remind members of the public to continue washing their hands regularly, and to self-isolate and get tested if they develop any symptoms.”
