A 28-YEAR-OLD man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after his car crashed into a brick wall.

Police are urging key witnesses to come forward after they were captured on CCTV at the scene of the serious crash in Gateshead.

Shortly before 10.30pm on August 7, police received a report of a single car crash at The Oval in Ryton.

This road is also known as Woodside Lane.

Officers attended and found a blue Subaru Impreza with damage from what they now know to be a collision with a brick wall on B6315 Woodside Lane just a short distance from the junction with B6317 Main Road.

Following the incident, a 28-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

He remains there in a critical condition.

Motor Patrols Sergeant John Sanderson, who is leading the investigation, said: “This is a serious collision which has left a man fighting for his life in hospital.

“As part of the investigation, we have since identified some key witnesses captured on nearby CCTV who are yet to get in touch.

“The footage in question shows that a group of people rushed over to the scene of the collision just moments after it happened. They checked on the passengers inside of the vehicle but have then left the scene before officers had a chance to speak with them.

“It is believed they could have come outside from a nearby pub or premises close to the scene of the collision. Most of the witnesses appear to be young to middle-aged men and one of the men had a small dog with him.

“If you were in the area at the time, and saw what happened before or after the collision, it is vital that you get in touch with us as soon as possible.

“Any further information you can provide would greatly assist our investigation.”

Any further witnesses, or those who can help, are urged to contact police via 101 or the online reporting form available on the Northumbria Police website using reference number 1462 07/08/20.
