ABOUT 100 jobs have been saved at a County Durham glass manufacturer after it was saved from administrators and acquired by new Swedish owners.

Swedish company Dellner Bubenzer purchased the assets of Consett based Romag Ltd, on Monday, after the company went into administration.

Romag’s 100 plus workforce has now been transferred to the new owners, who will continue operating from the manufacturing facility in Consett.

The company focuses on the manufacture and supply of specialist glass and glazing products for the global rail, transport, security and architectural markets.

Marcus Aberg, chief executive of the Dellner Bubenzer Group, said: “We are delighted to be continuing our strategic growth with the creation of Dellner Romag Ltd. As Dellner and Romag are both family businesses with a skilled workforce, a 75 year history of technical innovation and a strong focus on quality and service, Romag’s customers are assured of a seamless transition. We are looking forward to building sustained, long-term relationships with customers and to offering them an integrated service from the Dellner companies.”

Councillor Carl Marshall, Cabinet member for economic regeneration, said: “This is tremendous news for Romag employees. Romag is a key supplier to the rail sector with a long-established track record in Consett.

“We would like to welcome Dellner Bubenzer to County Durham, and the contribution it will make to supporting the local and national economy, supporting the county to make the North the Northern Powerhouse that it is. We look forward to working with Dellner Bubenzer as it strengthens its presence in the UK.”

Dellner Romag Ltd will work closely alongside the group’s Dellner Polymer Solutions (DPS) division, based in Burton on Trent, and both companies will be led by Swedish chief executive Mikael Petersson - pictured.

Mr Petersson said: “Glass is a completely new product area for Dellner, but it complements our polymer solutions business perfectly. Particularly in the rail industry, we will now be able to supply vibration control, polymer and glazing solutions as a single, integrated package, to new and existing customers alike
