The 17-year-old, who has Down Syndrome, raised £2,700 in sponsorship for the Cheesy Waffles Project, a County Durham charity which provides enriching activities for young people with additional needs.

Durham City MP Mary Foy wrote to Evan, to praise his 'selfless' actions and for completing a lockdown challenge whilst smiling. She also hopes to one day host Evan and his family for a tour of Parliament.

Evan's mum Julie said he was thrilled when the letter on House of Commons-headed paper arrived at the family home in Sherburn, near Durham.

She said: "He was so happy, he loves to hear feedback people give and even if he's not that into politics he knows it is pretty special to get a letter from the House of Commons.

"We want to keep raising awareness of and money for Cheesy Waffles and to thank everyone for their generous donations."
