A WOMAN was reportedly punched in the face after asking a family not to leave their litter behind on a popular North Yorkshire beach.

Police are investigating the incident whereby a woman spoke to two other women, who had young children with them, and asked them to take their litter with them when leaving Filey beach

The pair then became aggressive towards her and one of the women punched the victim in the face.

Officers have carried out enquiries in the area and are appealing for information that could help them identify the suspect.

The incident happened on Filey beach at around 6pm on Friday, August 7.

The victim, who is in her 50s, reported being in pain from the punch but did not sustain any major injuries.

Police are requesting the public’s assistance to help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

In particular, officers are appealing for information from anyone that has witnessed the lead up to the assault or can provide the identities of those involved.

The attacker was described as of Asian appearance and the woman she was with was described as black, and they were with a number of young children.
