THIS week’s bouquet of the week goes to a woman who has been supporting her community over many years.

Nominated by Kay Sandham, our bouquet this week was presented to Wendy Mills, of Cockerton, Darlington,

Kay met Wendy while volunteering at an out-of-school club and at a foodbank in Cockerton. Kay said: "Wendy really deserves this gift. During lockdown, Wendy and her team at St Mary's foodbank in Cockerton continued to provide much-needed food parcels to people within the Cockerton community throughout the pandemic.

"A number of volunteers had to self isolate, but Wendy continued on and the foodbank quickly adapted from a collect service to home deliveries, so people did not have to leave home.

"The number of people needing help from the foodbank increased during the lockdown, but Wendy took all of this in her stride and provided food for everyone throughout, ensuring nobody went without, even providing Easter eggs for families.

"Wendy is so dedicated to the foodbank. She did not want to let her families down and wanted to make sure everyone received what they needed.

"Wendy could have chosen to close and self isolate herself, but she didn’t and ensured she was there for people throughout, not only for food, but a friendly ear for families to talk to.

"Wendy is a kind, generous and no-nonsense lady who runs a well-organised foodbank as well as volunteering for almost everyone connected to St Mary's Church. I know the families she helps are very grateful for her help and know she’s always there on the end of the phone if they need advice.

"She is so kind, generous and charitable."
