A MAN is due to stand trial later this year charged with possession of an axe in a public place.
Leroy Hewitt, of no fixed abode, denied one charge of having an offensive weapon in a public place when he appeared at Teesside Crown Court today.
The charge relates to an alleged incident in Hopetown Lane in Darlington on March 29, 2019, said Peter Sabiston, who is prosecuting the case.
The court heard the 41-year-old, who was represented by Mr Russell in court, was accused of having an axe during the alleged incident.
Mr Hewitt, who previously had an address in Darlington, pleaded not guilty to committing the offence during a short hearing on Tuesday.
Judge Stephen Ashurst granted him unconditional bail, subject to him completing the sentence he is currently serving in prison.
He is due to stand trial at Teesside Crown Court on October 5.
