ARMED police responded to a serious incident that has left one man in hospital.

Officers taped off an area in Frosterley Gardens, Annfield Plain, Stanley, at around 5.10pm on Saturday.

Unconfirmed reports on social media suggest that a man suffered a gunshot wound.

A criminal investigation is now underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, and how the man sustained his injuries.

The victim, a man in his thirties, was taken to hospital for treatment, but his injuries are not life-threatening.

Detective Inspector Steve Rooney, from Durham Constabulary, said: “We are treating this as an isolated incident and we do not believe there is any threat to the wider community.

“We have a team of officers working on the investigation, and would like to speak to anyone who has any information that could help with our enquiries.”

Anyone with any information should 101.
