A large fire which was reported to have broken out at the Steelworks site in Redcar, has been confirmed as actually starting in the Redcar Bulk Terminal, which is next door to the SSI site.

Cleveland fire brigade are currently in attendance at the fire in the Redcar Bulk Teminal, next door to the SSI Tata Steel site, Trunk Road, Redcar.

Two electrical substations are alight on the site.

Currently the fire service have five pumping appliances, an incident command unit and a supporting appliance on site.

Cleveland Fire Service said: "Large plumes of smoke will be visible for some time in the area."

There is currently one jet, ground monitor and four breathing apparatus are currently in use.

Seven fire engines are in attendance from Coulby Newham, Grangetown, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough and Stockton.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: "The fire is a transformer fire at Redcar Bulk Terminal. Cleveland Fire are on site.

"British Steel power has been affected by a power spike but is all fine now. A cordon is in place at 100m, concentrating on keeping personnel away and containing the fire.

"There are no injuries, and no issues with personnel. Everyone is accounted for. Everyone is fine."
