OVER £38,000 along with a large haul of cannabis was seized after officers raided a house in Gateshead.

Officers searched a house on Heworth Burn Crescent following intelligence that drugs were inside.

During the raid on Monday, officers seized several kilos of vacuum packed cannabis and over £38,000 worth of cash.

Inquiries led to the arrest of three males, 14, 37 and 47 on suspicion of drug offences.

Detective Sergeant Chris Johnson, of Northumbria Police, led on the investigation, said: “This has been a fantastic result by one of our local police teams who worked hard to see a positive result.

“Not only have three suspects been arrested but we have also successfully taken a large quantity of drugs off the street and stopped thousands of pounds being used for further suspected criminality.

“This investigation and other types of robust disruption work will continue. Drug offences are dangerous and damage communities and we will not stand for it.

“We urge anyone with concerns or information about drugs to contact us so we can continue ridding our streets of supply and individuals who think they can prey on and profit from the vulnerable.”

The three males arrested have since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Anyone who is concerned about drug use or supply in their community can contact police on 101 or via the Northumbria Police website.
