Police are appealing for witnesses after a man approached a group of teenagers and threatened them with a knife before stealing their mobile phones and cash in Middlesbrough.

The incident is reported to have happened in Coulby Newham around 8.30pm on Tuesday, (July 28) at Fairy Dell.

A man was reported to have approached a group of four teenagers, aged 13, and threatened them with a knife before stealing three mobile phones and cash.

The man then made off in the direction of the crossing near Tesco at the Parkway Centre.

Officers believe there may have been people nearby at the time of the incident who may have information which could assist their investigation.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of class A drugs.

He remains in police custody at this time.
