POLICE are investigating the circumstances of how a 34-year-old man came to suffer "significant" injuries.

The man was taken to James Cook University Hospital at about 9.30am on Tuesday after an incident in Station Road, Redcar.

He remains in hospital in a "critical but stable" condition.

As part of their investigations, officers have carried out inquiries at flats on Station Road, Redcar, and are appealing to anyone who may have seen or heard anything in this area on Tuesday morning to get in touch.

As part of their inquiries, two men aged 33 and 45 were arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault.

Both men have now been released under investigation while the investigation continues.
