A MAN jailed last week for breaching a restraining order was released within days due to time spent on remand.
Ryan Eccles received a straight 52-week prison sentence for flouting the order by ringing up a former partner and for breaching a suspended prison sentence, imposed at Durham Crown Court, last November, for harassment and other offences against the same woman.
An indefinite restraining order was put in place prohibiting contact with his ‘ex’.
While on bail, Eccles caused damage and threatened further damage at supported accommodation where he was living, in Murton, in May.
Eccles, 22, of Cornwall Court, Murton, admitted breaching a restraining order, criminal damage and threats to cause criminal damage, obstructing a police officer who came to arrest him, plus breaching the suspended sentence.
Judge Ray Singh recalled Eccles to consider re-sentencing him.
But as he turned up for the hearing, despite being at risk of being jailed, Judge Singh told him he was, “a lucky lad” and chose not to amend the sentence.
