A COUPLE in their 80s have been taken to hospital by air ambulance after a serious crash yesterday.

North Yorkshire Police is investigating a serious two-vehicle collision on the northbound A19 in the Hambleton District.

It happened at around 10am yesterday, Tuesday, July 28, at the T-junction with Green Lane which leads to Hutton Rudby, and involved a silver Audi Q7 and a black VW Golf.

A man and a woman, aged in their 80s, were taken to hospital by air ambulance after being extracted by firefighters.

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A woman and her two children were also checked over by paramedics.

Both north and southbound carriageways were temporarily closed by Highways England to allow the air ambulance to land and for the emergency teams to work safely at the scene.

The northbound carriageway reopened at 12.45pm.
