A MAN has been charged following an incident in Chester-le-Street over the weekend.

The 34-year-old local man was arrested on Sunday following a disturbance in Grange Villas on Saturday which left an 18-year-old man with serious injuries.

The man has been charged with affray and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

He has been remanded into custody and is expected to appear by video link at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court today.

A further five men who were arrested in connection with the incident have been released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.
