HERE are the key coronavirus updates from the last 24-hours.

  • There have been no further coronavirus patient deaths in hospitals in the North-East and North Yorkshire. Latest figures published on Monday afternoon confirmed a total of 1,735 patients in the region have died since the outbreak began, a figure that stands at 29,291 across England.
  • The Government said 45,759 people had died in hospitals, care homes and the wider community after testing positive for coronavirus in the UK as of 5pm on Sunday, up by seven from the day before. This is the lowest number reported since March 12 but reporting is often lower on weekends.
  • The UK has its first confirmed case of coronavirus in a pet cat. The cat caught Covid-19 from its owners, who tested positive for the virus, and all of them have since gone on to make full recoveries. Downing Street said the pet had shown symptoms of a respiratory infection "with a nasal discharge and some shortness of breath".
  • A holiday operator is to cancel all flights to several of its Spanish destinations following a change in government advice. Jet2, which operates from Newcastle Airport, is cancelling all flights and holidays to Costa de Almeria, Alicante, Malaga and Murcia.
  • The North-East is in the UKs bottom three regions for mask wearing - as data reveals 1 in 5 say they will "never" wear one. The startling figures come days after face coverings and face masks became mandatory in shops and supermarkets in England. But a study has found the North-East is one of the least likely regions for people to comply with new rules.
