AS a nation of animal lovers, we asked our readers to share with us photos and stories about the pets in their family.

Maybe you have a rescue animal that has made a difference in both your lives. From the exotic and unusual, to sofa-hogging cats and dogs, whether it’s a funny photo, story or event, we want to hear from you.

You can send your pictures to www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/perfectpets

Here are some of our readers’ pets we’ve heard about so far. More next week.

The Northern Echo:

Clare Louise, of Darlington, sent us this picture of her cat Simba, who has lived with Clare since since he was 14 weeks old. Clare said: “My pet is special as he’s part of our family, not to mention he’s also a Sphynx cat and he makes everyone smile, and he loves us all”.

The Northern Echo:

Stuart Lever, of Middlesbrough, sent us this photograph of Echo, who has been with the family since he was eight weeks old – he is now 11 and will be 12 at Christmas. Echo is a Siberian Husky. Stuart said: “Echo is very playful. He loves his treats and he rattles door keys to go out. He is a good loving dog and a very big part of the family. My grandson managed to get into the picture too”.

The Northern Echo:

This is Cleo, who has been part of Donna Smith’s family in Darlington for two years. Donna said: “Cleo is my deaf moggie. She is my shadow, following me everywhere, even to the shops. She is so loving and loves a cuddle. She is pictured here lip licking after the family BBQ”.

The Northern Echo:

Rhonda Graeme, from Seaton Carew, shares her home with Gabby, a saluki/ deerhound cross puppy, who is enjoying her spot in the new chair.
