BUS passengers in Durham, Chester-le-Street, Sunderland and Newcastle will get the chance to travel to work in an open top bus.

Go North East has revealed passengers using its Angel 21, Fab 56 and Cobalt & Coast routes may see an open top bus on their journey.

The firm said it is hoping to 'spread some sunshine cheer' with passengers being able to take full advantage of the warmer weather.

They will operate amongst usual vehicles on each route on hot days throughout the school summer holidays.

A spokesperson for the firm said: "These buses are planned to operate on set journeys but are subject to availability and short notice change.

"Our hardworking depot teams will do their best to put these buses out for customer enjoyment on every warm day."

Go North East said most of its routes across the region are now back to full service levels following the coronavirus lockdown.

It also said it had achieved the independent Visit Britain 'Good to Go' accreditation in recognition of its Covid-secure efforts.
