AN artist from Hartlepool has designed models of locomotion steam engines in his spare time.

Geoff Birse, designed the Model of the Locomotion steam engine for the wall of the Cleveland Bay pub in Eaglescliffe.

He currently supplies his models to various sculptures and engineering companies who are active in producing models of his work.

Geoff said: "I am currently in the process of completing work on the Stephensons Rocket in it's final form from about 1830, when this is complete my next project will be a working 3D printed model of the Royal George, this and Virtual Reality Model will be made of the same engine."

Geoff is a member of the friends of the Stockton and Darlington Railway.

He said: "This is why I am researching and rebuilding them in 3d and VR so everyone can see and enjoy them."

Geoff has designed the models for around 15 years. He buys books to research into the steam engines.

He said: "After I had a heart attack four years ago I struggled to get back into things, but over the last six months I've got back into it."
