Police are warning members of the public about potentially dangerous medication after a bag containing various medicines was stolen in Billingham.

The incident happened around 10pm on Cotswold Crescent on Friday (July 3) after ambulance service colleagues attended a medical incident on the street.

Following this, a member of the public handed the bag of medication to a male driving a grey Alfa Romeo, which had a 07 registration plate, who said that he would return the bag to paramedics who were parked in an ambulance nearby.

Ambulance service colleagues did not receive the bag and reported the medication as stolen.

If taken by someone who is not prescribed the medication, it could be very dangerous.

Officers are asking anyone who may find the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) medication bag to hand it in at any local police station or pharmacy.

A NEAS spokesperson said: “We reported a bag missing from our ambulance to police following an incident last night and are supporting them with their enquiries. We urge anyone who comes across this bag to please return it to the police as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information regarding the stolen medication is asked to call 101, quoting event number 107335 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or go online to www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
