THIS weekend sees the 72nd NHS anniversary and while that may not be a special anniversary number, it comes as the first since the Covid– 19 pandemic and at a time many appreciate the NHS more than ever.
Residents will show their appreciation by clapping on their doorsteps at 5pm on Sunday, July 5.
Many people have missed clapping for the NHS and are glad to see it back, not least artist Ian Berry and his son, Elliott, six.
Prior to the last clap the artist completed the beacon like journey of his Clapping Hands animation from Land’s End to John O’Groats with more than 70 town’s and cities in between, to show gratitude to key workers.
Of course it was in the North-East with the Baltic, Civic Centre, St James Park, the Castle as well as Durham, Easington and Middlesbrough.
And now it is back with the Angel of the North and Sunday with the RVI.
Since it has been projected in Leicester, Shrewsbury, on the South Bank Centre, London and this week in Margate along with the Anglel of the North it projected special messages to bring attention to the new clap and the July 5, date.
