KNITTERS have been spreading some cheer during the coronavirus pandemic by creating specially designed NHS key worker figures.

The scheme was organised by The Yorkshire Countrywomen's Association (YCA) which has more than a dozen branches across North Yorkshire.

Members have now presented more than 80 of the handmade dolls to the NHS in the region and will surpass the 100 mark before the end of the month.

Karen Dennis, creator of the knitting patterns used, said it all started by her knitting just one NHS worker doll in a full set of scrubs to display in her window, when then spiralled into a 100-doll project after being spotted by the YCA office on Facebook.
