CARE home residents and staff celebrated LGBT Pride Month with a rainbow themed party.

Decorations, cakes and colourful clothing marked national awareness month at Briarwood Care Home, on Normanby Road.

Throughout a week, residents have been making rainbow decorations ahead of the celebration, which was organised by deputy manager Emma Green and the team at the home.

A buffet and afternoon tea was also prepared for the occasion by the home’s cook Lisa Harland. This was followed by a special Pride Bingo, where residents could win rainbow coloured prizes.

Bright and colourful clothing was worn by all those who took part, and residents were given rainbow flags to wave.

Resident Pat Hopwood said: “It’s lovely to be making things like rainbows. I like the bright colours and at the party it was fun to sing along to the songs.”

Fellow resident Christine Stanley said: “Any excuse for a party.”

Emma Green, deputy manager at Briarwood Care Home, said the event was organised because staff wanted to raise awareness for the cause, which is celebrated across the world across June, typically with parades and marches. This year due to coronavirus celebrations are encouraged to take place indoors deemed Pride Inside.

“Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the party and the cakes made by our cook Lisa were delicious.”
