THERE are junctions across our region that can easily catch you out - even if you are the most confident of drivers.

Whether you're following your sat nav, road signs or instructions from the back seat driver, navigating in parts of our region can be difficult.

We know this because some roads are often described as 'horrendous' and 'dangerous' by those that use them nearly every single day.

The Northern Echo asked our readers for the junctions that they deem to be their worst and asked them for their reasons why.

Here's the top six we chose:

  • Joining junctions between A66 and A19 north at Teesside Park

One reader said: "The filter lane from A66 coming from Teesside park on to A19 Northbound.

"It’s a give way on to two filter lanes, that are often trying to filter on to A19. The barriers give you very little vision.

"All the filter lanes on A66 and A19 that double up as exit and entrance ramps."

  • A167 Thinford Roundabout, County Durham

Approaching the junction from the A167, motorists have three lanes to choose from before they make their appropriate exit.

One reader said: "No matter how hard I concentrate, I (mess) up everytime.

"Before getting anywhere near the roundabout you have to start choosing (guessing) the right lane (there's 3 to choose from but only one is right).

"Once you've chosen, you're committed. And only 1 lane of the 3 will guide you to your exit of choice.

"The 3 lanes somehow morph into 4 lanes when you enter the roundabout."

Known as 'Kinninvie Crossroads,' Billy Lane cuts across the B6279 but despite give way signs warning of the junction locals say it is 'horrendous.'

One reader said: "Absolutely horrendous as people appear to not be able to acknowledge 7 different slow/junction ahead/give way signs.

"We were having an accident a week at one point."

This mini-roundabout is situated towards the bottom of a hill and some residents have said cars often 'fail' to give way to motorists on the right.

A reader said: "Cars come down the hill and never stop at the roundabout to give way to people coming out of Eggleston View.

"It's really dangerous and I'm sure I'm not the only person who finds it so. I live right near it and sometimes hear beeps."

  • A19 Testos Roundabout

Granted there are extensive works currently taking place at Testos Roundabout, one reader said motorists 'cut other drivers up' when coming from the A184 to the A19.

They said: "It's a nightmare, the queues, traffic, light sequencing going onto the roundabout."

  • A690 West Rainton junctions

Junctions along this road are sharp in nature and requires motorists to dramatically increase speed to reach the speed of flowing traffic.

One reader said: "On the A169, both of the West Rainton junctions can be a bit scary - there are always loads of smashes there.

"The gaps in traffic aren't very big."
